As of 2018, 22 percent of Ghanaian children aged five to eleven years were already involved in economic activities for 43 hours or more a week. Moreover, 11 percent of children aged 12 to 14 years were doing household chores for 28 hours or more weekly, while 29 percent of children aged 15 to 17 years were working under hazardous conditions at the moment of the survey.

The source adds that their definition of child labor is as follows: "Age 5-11 years: At least 1 hour of economic work, 28 hours of unpaid household services per week or hazardous working conditions. Age 12-14 years: At least 14 hours of economic work, 28 hours of unpaid household services per week or hazardous working conditions. Age 15-17 years: At least 43 hours of economic or unpaid household services per week or hazardous working conditions. Economic activities include paid or unpaid work for someone who is not a member of the household, work for a family farm or business. Household chores include activities such as cooking, cleaning or caring for children, as well as collecting firewood or fetching water."
