In 2017, migrants formed more than half of the entire female workforce in urban India. Sectors such as primary services and construction held the maximum share of migrant workers in the category. On the other hand, the manufacturing sector possessed fewer migrants.

Primary sector includes agriculture, hunting. forestry, fishing, mining, and quarrying, Traditional services include wholesale and retail trade, hotels, and restaurants, transport, storage, and communications.
Modern services includes Financial Intermediation, real estate, renting and business, education, health, social work, other community, social and personal services.
