In July 2020, following increasing pressure from fans and sponsors, the Washington Redskins announced that they would change their name as the term 'Redskins' was seen as disrespectful toward Native Americans and other people of color. During a March 2021 survey in the United States, 24 percent of respondents strongly agreed that sports teams such as the Washington Football Team did the right thing by changing their name and imagery.
