In 2022, the share of Shanghai's economy in China's total gross domestic product (GDP) amounted to 3.7 percent. Shanghai's share decreased gradually from around 5.0 percent in 2005 to 3.7 percent in 2015, as the economic development in other provinces, especially in the inner parts of China, caught up.
