Between December 2019 and April 2020, museums and public cultural institutions in Italy published on average more posts on Twitter than on Facebook or Instagram. During the months of national lockdown, when museums and other cultural institutions in Italy had to close to the public due to the coronavirus pandemic, the number of average posts published on Twitter roughly doubled. A similar trend also concerned the posts published on both Facebook and Instagram.
