The majority of Russian e-commerce retailers in sporting goods market were located in Moscow and Moscow region over the given period. Over ten percent of sporting good e-stores were based in Western Russia, while just three percent of the market players were registered in Northern capital - Saint Petersburg.

The study includes stores that specialize in the sales of sports equipment, sports clothing and shoes, goods for tourism and outdoor activities, weapons, and goods for fishing and hunting. Universal marketplaces with the annual sales value of over 100 million Russian rubles were also taken into consideration.
39 online stores of such profile included in the TOP1000 Russian online stores by the number of orders in 2021 are taken under consideration.
