Peru: change in monthly metal mine production 2020, by type

In April and May 2020, a decrease in mine production in Peru was reported for every main metal produced in the country. Iron production was reduced to zero, while zinc and silver production dropped by more than 70 percent, when compared to the same month of 2019. Since June, metal mine production in the Andean country has started to recover, and by August, both iron and zinc production were above their respective 2019 levels. Meanwhile, production of precious metals in Peru continued to struggle, with the annual accumulated production still more than 20 percent lower than reported a year earlier.
Quarantine measures against the spread of COVID-19 in Peru were put in place in mid-March, leading the majority of mining companies to suspend operations, maintaining only critical activities.
