According to a survey conducted in December 2019 in Japan, the majority of smokers considered the amendments in the Health Promotion Act regarding passive smoking to be troublesome to some degree. Only 6.5 percent did not feel at all troubled by the regulations.
The amendments to the Health Promotion Act in Japan started in July 2018 and was scheduled to be completed by April 2020 prior to the Tokyo Olympics 2020. The bill prohibits smoking in public facilities, offices as well as most restaurants and public areas.
