The IRI CPG Demand Index measures weekly changes in consumer purchases against the same period in the year before across departments of consumer packaged goods, grocery aisles, and retail formats. A IRI CPG value above 100 points would indicate a growth in demand, while a value below 100 points would be proof of a decline. According to data, the demand for dog food was well above 2023 levels throughout the reported, but it decreased between April and July. Demand for cat food also decreased during the same period. Furthermore, pet care products for other pets, also decreased between April and July.
