The majority of smokers in Japan, almost 79 percent, were consuming traditional paper-wrapped cigarettes, as revealed by a survey conducted in November 2019. Heated tobaccos were the second most popular products, with around 27 percent.
According to Japanese law, e-cigarettes containing nicotine cannot be legally purchased, apart for medical purposes. Instead, heated tobaccos, also known as tobacco vapor products, are considered a legal alternative to cigarettes.
