Financing for LNG companies worldwide 2016-2023, by bank
Between 2016 and 2023, the investment bank Mizuho was the leading financer for top liquefied natural gas (LNG) import and export companies. In the years following 2016, annual investment from the bank has hovered around the one to two billion U.S. dollar mark, with a sharp rise in 2023. Mizuho's investments in liquefied natural gas stood at 10.94 billion U.S. dollars in 2023.
LNG is natural gas that has been cooled to around minus 162 degrees Celsius in order to ease transportation to consumer markets. The volume of globally traded LNG has increased significantly over the past 50 years, rising from 3 billion cubic meters in 1970 to 488 billion cubic meters in 2020. Projections show that the demand for LNG is expected to increase worldwide in the coming years.
