According to the results of a survey conducted in Nigeria in 2018, pills, injectable contraceptives, and male condoms were the most known modern contraceptive methods among both males and females. Overall, men were slightly more aware of contraceptive methods compared to women. With regard to traditional methods, withdrawal, or coitus interruptus, was indicated by some 60 percent of women and 83 percent of men.
In Nigeria, about 28 percent of unmarried women used modern contraception methods, which include pills, condoms, implants, and others. The share of married women who used contraception was even lower.
