In 2023, the duration of yellow dust entering South Korea lasted for 24 days. This represents a much longer timespan than the previous year. Yellow dust that impacts the air quality in South Korea originates from China and the Mongolian deserts and usually blows into the country during the springtime, although it could also occur in the winter. Extreme cases of yellow dust could cause respiratory problems and even lead to the temporary closing of schools or cancellation of flights in some cases.
