Ten years after the Smolensk air crash, only less than a quarter of Poles (23 percent) believed that the crash's reasons were fully explained. Nearly one third (30 percent) thought that they still require additional explanations. Almost two fifths (38 percent) believed that nothing had been explained so far. Compared to previous surveys, fewer people consider the investigation to be successful.
On 10 April 2010, an airplane crashed near Smolensk (Russia), in which 96 people were killed, mainly politicians and high-ranking representatives of state organizations and the army, including the President of the Republic of Poland Lech KaczyĆski.
