According to a survey in 2020, around 13.5 thousand medical clinics in Japan were participating in community health information networks. In total, more than 31.8 thousand medical facilities belonged to the networks during the measured time period, representing a rapid increase in the last decade from about eight thousand in 2011. The community health information network is a system in which medical information of patients can be shared within the regions. The Japanese government has promoted the system to improve comprehensive medical care offered in local areas.
