Dutch consumers became increasingly open to online grocery shopping due to the coronavirus, although the majority still preferred to buy in-store. This conclusion was based on a biweekly survey that looked at consumers' net spending intent (the percentage of respondents indicating they will spend more over the next four weeks minus the percentage who said they will spend less), whilst people were in self-isolation. The net spending intent was 29 percent on April 19, 23 percent on May 3, 27 percent on May 16, 17 percent on May 30 and 19 percent on June 13, 16 percent on June 27, 15 percent on July 11 and 14 percent on July 25. This overview looks at the distribution of offline and online purchase channels within those answers. Overall, preferences seem to have remained relatively stable as consumers who planned to buy groceries online saw a marginal growth between April and May. The data for June and July, however, suggests that online grocery shopping declined again.

The results have been weighted to represent the entire population.
The source does not specifically define what "Mixed" stands for. It is assumed this might indicate ordering a product online (for example, through an online supermarket) and then picking up the order from an offline point of sales (in this example, from the supermarket itself without home delivery).
Percentage points not adding to up 100 percent are probably due to rounding.
