According to a survey conducted by Rakuten Insight in April 2020 on panic buying after the coronavirus outbreak, a majority of Japanese respondents stated that they did not stock up on items because they trusted that supermarkets would have enough supplies. In the same survey, around 95 percent of all Japanese respondents indicated that they had not engaged in panic buying because of the coronavirus pandemic.
