Coronavirus workforce measures of businesses in South Africa in 2020
Laying off workers in the short term was the most common workforce measure that businesses in South Africa implemented as a response to the coronavirus. This according to a survey in April 2020. Due to the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic and the lockdown in South Africa, businesses implemented various workforce measures to lower the economic impact. According to this survey, approximately 35 percent indicated to lay off staff in the short term, whereas 24.9 percent implemented a decrease in working hours. Roughly 20 percent, on the other hand, said no measures have been taken.
