Source definition: General hospitals comprise licensed establishments primarily engaged in providing general diagnostic and medical treatment (both surgical and non-surgical) to inpatients with a wide variety of medical conditions. These establishments may provide other services, such as outpatient services, anatomical pathology services, diagnostic X-ray services, clinical laboratory services or operating room services for a variety of procedures, and/or pharmacy services, that are usually used by internal patients (intermediate outputs within the hospital treatment) but also by outside patients.
