The maximum electricity demand registered in Mexico throughout the third week of April, 2020 amounted to approximately 36.5 gigawatts, a decrease of around nine percent in comparison to the same week in the previous year. In the following week, the maximum demand registered reached 38.2 gigawatts. The increase was associated with an increase in residential consumption, specially refrigeration systems, as well as certain businesses returning to activities.
Social distancing measures, including the closing of schools, were implemented in Mexico on March 20, 2020, in face of the COVID-19 pandemic and the increasing number of cases in the country.
