Electricity demand experienced an overall decrease in many countries in Central and South America as the number of confirmed cases of coronavirus in the region increased and different lockdown measures were enforced in an attempt to contain its spread. In Peru, electricity demand decreased by more than 26 percent in the four days following the establishment of quarantine measures in the country, while in Argentina, the average demand decreased by 23 percent in the last 10 days of March, when compared to the beginning of the same month.

For Colombia, figure refers to change in demand reported between March 17-23, 2020 in comparison to the previous seven days.
For Costa Rica, figure refers to change in demand in the period from March 16-24, 2020. The source does not specify the base period for comparison.
For Ecuador, change refers to the period of March 16-22, 2020 in comparison to March 9-15, 2020.
For Guatemala, figure refers to the change in demand in the period from March 15-21, 2020 in comparison to previous weeks. Quarantine measures were established in the country on March 17, 2020.
For Panama, the source does not specify the survey period. The base period is the first week of March, 2020.
For Peru, figure refers to change in demand from March 16-20, 2020 in comparison to March 2-6, 2020. Quarantine measures were implemented on March 15, 2020.
