Leaders in the hospitality sector generally felt that an Australian-style points-based system for immigration would be a negative for the industry. Brexit has had a detrimental affect on many restaurant and hotel businesses that relied on EU migrants to fill skill gaps and hard-to-fill vacancies. From 2021, EU workers will no longer have the right to freedom of movement in the United Kingdom. A proposed points-based system for such immigrants was considered negative by 41 percent of industry respondents, compared to 21 percent who thought it would be positive. The rest were neutral.
