During the complete lockdown due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak, Italian consumers appeared quite worried of running out of food and other consumer goods. Between February and March 2020, Italy experienced a significant growth in retail sales value, included the fresh food products. Both packaged and loose fresh foods reported sales value increasing by 13.6 percent during the third week of March. The peak was reached between March 9 and 15, with sales increasing by 22.3 percent.
