Around 54 percent of the total worked in hospitals, with Catalonia and Madrid accounting for the largest number. That year, the amount of healthcare professionals who were part of primary care teams reached close to 37,000, including family doctors and pediatricians. In 2020, around 84 percent of collegiate doctors in Spain were registered as active.
