In a survey conducted in December 2019, almost 23 percent of Japanese respondents agreed that the organization of art and culture events during the 2020 Olympics and Paralympics in Tokyo would help increase their personal interest in Japanese culture. With another approximately 36 percent agreeing to the statement, a majority of around 58 percent foresaw this effect.
The Summer Olympic and Paralympic games were scheduled to take place in 2020, being held for the second time in the Japanese capital. They were, however, postponed for a year due to the global pandemic of coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
