In a survey conducted in December 2019, close to 43 percent of Japanese respondents stated that the 2020 Olympics being hosted by Tokyo would have a positive impact on improving their understanding of or interest in people with disabilities. With another approximately 40 percent agreeing to the statement, an overall majority of around 83 percent foresaw this effect of the 2020 Olympics.
The Summer Olympics were scheduled to take place between 24 July and 9 August in 2020, being held for the second time in the Japanese capital.
