As of February 2020, the Indonesian government has set aside 443 billion Indonesian rupiah to incentivize domestic tourists to visit any of the ten promoted tourist destinations in Indonesia. The economic stimulus package was to counter the impact of the outbreak of the novel coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 on the Indonesian economy, particularly the tourism sector. Indonesia registered its first coronavirus-related death on March 11, 2020 on Bali, a popular tourist destination. Globally, the tourism sector has been greatly affected by the spread of the virus.
