In the beginning of March 2020, the Seoul Metropolitan Government announced that it plans to install 2,500 smart IoT devices in homes of senior citizens living alone each year until 2022. The devices serve as a real-time monitoring system and allow caretakers to detect human movement, temperature, humidity, as well as brightness. If no movement has been detected for a prolonged period of time or other anomalies are detected, life support officers will be able to check for the owner's well being.
