LNG trade volumes are expected to grow by 10 million metric tons per annum delivered ex-ship in 2021, indicating that growth is not yet fully recovered to levels seen prior to the coronavirus pandemic. In 2020, the pandemic and resulting economic fallout resulted in a much lower increase in LNG trade. Figures reached their peak at an estimated 39 million metric tons per annum delivered ex-ship in 2019. The total trade volume in 2020 was 360 million metric tons. Meanwhile, worldwide LNG liquefaction capacity additions are set to grow by merely four million metric tons in 2021.
