In 2021, Overijssel was the province with the largest number of dairy farms in the Netherlands. That year, there were over 2,700 dairy farms in Overijssel. By comparison, in Zeeland there were only 195 dairy farms that year.
Despite having the largest number of dairy farms, Overijssel was not the province with the largest number of dairy cows. In 2020, Friesland had nearly 300,000 dairy cows, vs. just over 250,000 in Overijssel.
