In 2023, around 10.2 thousand Volkswagen cars were registered in South Korea. Following the emissions scandal, when it was revealed that automakers of the Volkswagen Group had falsified their vehicle emissions data, sales in Korea dropped by a third in 2016. In 2017, there were no sales at all, as the Korean government cancelled the import certifications of 32 Volkswagen and Audi models. Volkswagen quietly resumed sales in 2018.
