In the Australian bushfire season of 2019-20, preliminary data showed that a total of 16 threatened species of mammal were inhabiting areas affected by fires. Of the mammalian species affected, half were listed as endangered. Frog and bird species were the fauna types with the most critically endangered species in fire affected areas.

The dataset presents a preliminary analysis of species listed under the Australian national Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999, which occur in the areas affected by fires in southern and eastern Australia between 1 August 2019 and 13 January 2020.
