In a survey conducted by Rakuten in 2019, regarding the reasons why respondents tried functional beverages in Thailand, almost 49 percent of female respondents stated that they had wanted to try something new. Contrastingly, for the same survey just over one percent of male respondents in Thailand tried functional beverages as a celebrity had endorsed it.

The survey was conducted among 5,417 female and 3,833 male respondents. Other surveyed countries included China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan and Vietnam.
