Indonesia is the largest palm oil producer globally, while its forest are the third largest tropical forests in the world. In 2019, around 5.74 thousand hectares of conservation forest in Central Kalimantan were already legally planted by oil palm, through the location and plantation business permit. Although the practice of clearing rainforest for palm oil production has led to some backlash against products with palm oil, palm oil production in Indonesia had been steadily increasing in the last few years.
