According to a survey conducted in November 2019 among locals of the 47 prefectures in Japan, around 35 percent of residents in Iwate prefecture claimed to hold back on purchasing desired products after the consumption tax increase from eight to ten percent was implemented in October of the same year. The survey revealed that the Japanese capital Tokyo came in second place, with 32 percent of residents reporting to be more considered in regards to their shopping behavior since the tax hike.
