As of the first half of 2023, UniCredit Group was the bank with the highest stock of gross non-performing exposures in Italy. The bank's gross non-performing exposures reached a value of over 12 billion euros. Second in the list was Intesa Sanpaolo with over 10 billion euros worth of gross non-performing exposures. UniCredit and Intesa Sanpaolo are some of the largest banks in the country.
