While Malaysia had made significant progress in the past few years in reducing gender inequality, the level of gender inequality is still high compared to other developed countries. In a survey on women's equality conducted by Ipsos in 2019, the leading factor that Malaysian respondents' perceived that stopped women achieving equality with men was that employers were not doing enough to help women combine work and caring responsibilities, with 20 percent of respondents sharing this view.
