Number of lyceums in Italy 2019, by type of school

In 2019, there were 1.4 thousand scientific lyceums in Italy. The main subjects in these type of high schools are natural sciences and mathematics. In addition, 608 upper secondary schools were classical lyceums, where students focus on ancient Greek and Latin.
Lyceums give access to university education. Among the different types of Italian upper secondary schools, lyceums are those most of all preparing students for the tertiary education. Technical high schools give access to tertiary education as well, offering both a technical and a theoretical preparation. Eventually, Vocational schools mostly focus on practical training, which also allow students to enroll at university.
