The question of whether Germany and the Soviet Union attacked Poland in September 1939 was answered in the affirmative by 68 percent of the surveyed residents of Italy, 67 percent of French and German citizens, 79 percent of British, and 92 percent of Poles.
On 27 January 1945, the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp was liberated. In connection with the 75th anniversary of that liberation, as well as the 110th birthday anniversary of Irena Sendler, a Polish social activist who was awarded the Righteous Among the Nations medal for saving more than 2,500 Jewish children from the Holocaust, the United Surveys research agency, in 2020, compiled the data and checked how Poland and Poles are perceived in the context of World War II, in the most important countries of the European Union: The United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy, and Poland.

* In Poland the survey was conducted on 20 January 2020 by CATI on a sample of 1100 people; in Germany on 17-20 January 2020 by CAWI on a sample of 2122 people; in France on 15-16 January 2020 by CAWI on a sample of 1008 people; in the UK on 17-20 January 2020 by CAWI on a sample of 2029 people; in Italy on 15-17 January 2020 by CAWI on a sample of 800 people.
The list includes the answers of respondents who declared to have knowledge of Poland's role in World War II.
