In 2018, Barclays PLC committed to facilitating a total of 150 billion British pounds of social and environmental financing by 2025. Additionally, as a part of its strategy for environmental stewardship, the bank committed towards reducing the carbon footprint of their own operations and supply chain and procuring 100 percent of their global operational electricity needs from renewable sources by 2030. In 2020, Barclays emitted approximately 198,000 tonnes of CO2 equivalent, which was the lowest value recorded.

The source added the following information "* We continuously review and update our performance data based on updated carbon emission factors, improvements in data quality and updates to estimates previously applied. For 2019 we have applied the latest DEFRA and IEA emission factors. Where our performance has changed we have restated the balances and baseline. Emissions (tonnes CO2e) previously reported for 2015, 2016 and 2017 are 479,535, 406,242 and 351,655 respectively.
