According to the French Ministry of Education (Ministère de l'Éducation Nationale), almost 92 percent of the students enrolled in a scientific Higher School Preparatory Classes (Classes Préparatoires aux Grandes Ecoles) course had previously obtained a general baccalaureat during the 2023/2024 school period. In the French education system, the different general Bac (baccalauréat) diplomas represent either a diploma with a scientific focus ("S"), a literary focus ("L"), or a social and economic focus ("ES").
