The Armistice Convention of 1918 was signed between the Allied forces and Germany on November 11, 1918, and brought an end to hostilities cause by the First World War. The initial terms placed on Germany involved the retreat of all German forces behind the Rhine, and the annexation of the Rhineland by Allied troops. In addition to this, Allied Commander-in-Chief Marshal Foch demanded the surrender of thousands of vehicles, weapons and military materiel, including 150,000 wagons, 25,000 machine guns and 1,700 airplanes.
