In 2023, net imports of fuel oil into Hong Kong were valued at around 22.1 billion Hong Kong dollars. This figure represents a decrease from the previous year and a drop from the peak of over 35 billion Hong Kong dollars back in 2013.
Oil product imports
Hong Kong relies heavily on external energy resources to meet its energy demand because of a lack of local fossil resources and alternative energy development. The majority of imported energy commodities are oil products, which accounted for around 80 percent of all energy commodities imported in 2023. Aviation gasoline and kerosene are the oil products with the highest import volume.
