In 2018, 53 percent of respondents felt that Singapore was much cleaner than it was 5 years ago. This was a drop of 2.5 percent as compared to the results from 2017. The proportion of those who felt that Singapore was less clean as compared to before stayed relatively constant at around 11 percent. According to the survey, older persons were more likely to report that Singapore was cleaner now compared to those who were younger as cleanliness standards have changed over the years.
Current perceptions of cleanliness in Singapore compared to five years ago from 2017 to 2018
The survey was conducted from August 2018 to December 2018. The first wave of this study was conducted between October 2016 to March 2017.
Over 2000 Singapore Citizens and Permanent Residents aged 21 years and above.
