At the port of Copenhagen, the throughput of loaded containers were consistently around five to ten thousand twenty-foot equivalent units less than the amount for unloaded containers in the period from 2009 to 2019. In 2019, 73 thousand TEU of containers were unloaded in the Danish port. Meanwhile, the amount was 66 thousand twenty-foot equivalent units for loaded containers.
The port of Copenhagen dates back to the middle ages, and was originally owned by the royal family of Denmark. Since 2001, the port is owned and operated by CMP, Copenhagen Malmö Port. As CMP also owns the port of Malmö, Danish, Swedish, and Norwiegan markets can be reached with one call, which since the merger between the two ports has resulted in a 70 percent increase in net sales as of 2012.
