The cannabis industry in the United States is still relatively new. The uses of marijuana are varied, not only can it be used as a psychoactive substance but it can also produce byproducts such as hemp and CBD. There are more flexible regulations for the industrial production of hemp, particularly in terms of its cultivation and distribution as an agricultural product. CBD, also known as cannabidiol, is from the non-psychoactive portion of the plant and is used in a wide range of products from cosmetics to ingestible oils that are used to create a feeling of relaxation and calm. Still, personal cultivation of this type of cannabis was not widely recognized. When asked whether they would definitely or probably grow hemp or CBD, 33 percent of respondents in the Northeast region were most likely to agree to do so if it was legal. Meanwhile, respondents from both the Pacific and South Atlantic regions were the least likely to grow hemp or CBD, with 22 percent, respectively, saying they would definitely or probably would grow.
