Rajasthan, unsurprisingly, had the highest camel population across India, at about 213 thousand in 2019. Camel population across the country, mainly in the Thar desert region declined drastically by nearly 35 percent between 2012 and 2019. Livestock population amounted to nearly 535.8 million; however, the largest share was from cattle, buffaloes and goats.
