In a survey conducted in 2019 in New Zealand, regarding the main reasoning for children and young people not thriving as well as they should, 37 percent of respondents stated poor parenting; poor home environments and dysfunctional families was the main reason why children and young people were not thriving. Comparatively, eight percent of respondents believed discipline, or a lack thereof, was the main reason why children and young people were not thriving as much as they should in New Zealand, in 2019.
