In 2018, the majority of mobile game players in Japan were smartphone users, with approximately 58.6 million people playing games on their smartphones. About 26.7 million people paid for smartphone games, equaling about 46 percent of all smartphone gamers. While tablets were used to a lesser extent as gaming devices, the share of buyers was higher than in the case of smartphones, with a majority of tablet gamers paying for gaming content.
