In a survey on the state of happiness in Australia conducted by Ipsos in 2019, around 45 percent of respondents stated that feeling in control of their life gave them or could give them some happiness. Globally, 40 percent of adults reported the same during the survey period.

Respondents were asked to complete the following: "Feeling in control of my life - Does or could give me greatest happiness, does or could give me some happiness, doesn't or couldn't make me happy or happier, does not apply to me".
